Dermal fillers are used to replace volume that has been lost with age by plumping out lines that occur around the lips, forehead and the lines from the nose to the corner of the mouth. Dermal fillers are injected just below the skin and work immediately, significantly diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Dermal Fillers FAQ
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid which occurs naturally in the skin, eyes and joints. When injected into the skin, it aims to replace volume that has been lost with age.
What do they do?
They are commonly used to help fill out or "plump out" lines around the lips, forehead and the lines from the nose to the corner of the mouth. The effect is that the skin appears smoother, more youthful and firmer.
Will my lines go completely?
It's not always possible to completely fill out a line. However, treatment will considerably soften the depth and appearance of the line. The benefit of dermal fillers is that this effect is immediate and can last from 6 months up to a year.
Is it safe?
Unlike anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers are not prescription only products. However, it is important to remember that as they require administering via an injection, dermal fillers should only be administered by an appropriately trained Practitioner and only after a comprehensive and thorough consultation, during which risks are explained and realistic outcomes established. We are committed to providing our clients with a robust and thorough consultation and only use the best available products.
What happens during the treatment?
Treatment with dermal fillers takes approximately 45 minutes. A local anaesthetic cream is used to numb the area prior to treatment and the product itself incorporates a local anaesthetic gel to further ensure your comfort. There is no "rest time" required after treatment, you'll be free to pursue your daily activities as normal.
What happens after the treatment?
Unlike anti-wrinkle injections, the effects of dermal fillers can be seen immediately and typically last for six to twelve months. However, as with anti-wrinkle injections age, skin type and lifestyle can affect this. After your treatment you may experience slight tenderness with transient redness or swelling at the injection sites. These effects usually only last 2-7 days. We are committed to a high standard of aftercare and will be available to address any concerns or questions you may have, and provide any further prescribing that you may require to address any after-effects of the treatment.
How often will I need to have the treatment done?
The effects of dermal fillers typically last for six to twelve months, but this is dependent on age, skin type and lifestyle. We provide free and regular follow up consultations to ensure that your treatment continues to deliver the desired effect. The frequency of follow up consultations will be discussed and agreed with you as part of your treatment plan.
